The IP (INGRESS PROTECTION) protection rating system is drafted by the INTERNATIONAL ELECTROTECHNICAL COMMISSION (IEC), which grades electrical appliances according to their dust and moisture resistance characteristics.

The protection level is mostly expressed by IP followed by two numbers, and the number is used to clarify the level of protection.

The first number indicates the range of dust resistance of the device, or the degree to which people are protected from hazards in a sealed environment. Represents the level to prevent the entry of solid foreign bodies, the highest level is 6;

The second digit indicates how waterproof the device is. Represents the level of water protection, the highest level is 8

IP Rating Dust Protection Level and Water Protection Level

The IP (Ingress Protection) rating system consists of two digits after the IP designation, indicating the dust protection level and water protection level of a device.

Dust Protection Level (First Digit):

0: No protection against dust ingress

1: Protection against solid objects larger than 50mm in diameter

2: Protection against solid objects larger than 12.5mm in diameter

3: Protection against solid objects larger than 2.5mm in diameter

4: Protection against solid objects larger than 1.0mm in diameter

5: Dust protected - Ingress of dust is not entirely prevented, but it won't interfere with the normal operation of the equipment

6: Dust tight - Complete protection against dust ingress

Water Protection Level (Second Digit):

0: No protection against water ingress

1: Protection against vertically falling water droplets (e.g., condensation) that will not cause damage

2: Protection against water droplets at a 15-degree tilt or less

3: Protection against spraying water at angles up to 60 degrees from vertical

4: Protection against splashing water from any direction

5: Protection against low-pressure water jets (sustained for at least 3 minutes)

6: Protection against high-pressure water jets (sustained for at least 3 minutes)

7: Protection against temporary immersion in water up to 1 meter depth for 30 minutes

8: Protection against continuous immersion in water beyond 1 meter depth under specific conditions specified by the manufacturer

Note: The higher the numerical value, the greater the level of protection against dust or water ingress.

IP Rating Dust Protection Level

0 No protection against dust ingress

1 Protection against solid objects larger than 50mm in diameter

2 Protection against solid objects larger than 12.5mm in diameter

3 Protection against solid objects larger than 2.5mm in diameter

4 Protection against solid objects larger than 1.0mm in diameter

5 Complete protection against dust, limited ingress permitted (no harmful effects)

6 Complete protection against dust

Note: The higher the numerical value, the greater the protection against dust ingress.

Waterproofing Structures: Key components for Waterproofing - Buttons, Lens, Charging Port, Casing, Battery Cover, Speaker/Microphone Holes, Screw Holes.

Button Waterproofing: Techniques to protect buttons from water ingress, ensuring their functionality and longevity.

Lens Waterproofing: Methods to prevent water penetration into lenses or display panels, maintaining optical clarity and performance.

Charging Port Waterproofing: Strategies to safeguard charging ports from water damage, ensuring safe and reliable charging operations.

Casing Waterproofing: Techniques for sealing the overall casing of electronic devices, providing comprehensive protection against water intrusion.

Battery Cover Waterproofing: Measures to prevent water entry through the battery compartment, ensuring the integrity and safety of the device.

Speaker/Microphone Hole Waterproofing: Approaches to protect speaker and microphone openings from water damage while maintaining audio quality.

Screw Hole Waterproofing: Methods to seal screw holes and fastening points, preventing water penetration and maintaining structural integrity.

Note: It's important to consider specific design requirements and industry standards when implementing waterproofing structures for electronic products.
